Audi will become the first auto manufacturer to build and run its own renewable gas facility when it opens their new natural gas and hydrogen plant during 2013. This new plant will be a massive 44,000 square feet in Germany and will use water-generated and solar electricity to produce hydrogen. They will then be able to combine the hydrogen with waste carbon dioxide, using what would be harmful to the air to create a synthetic gas that is much less so. The first vehicle most likely to use the fuel produced by the company is the Audi A3 Sportback TCNG. The Audi A3 is a sporty, performance-based vehicle packed with Audi's superior driving technology, systems, powertrains and drivetrains.
“This power-to-gas technology opens up new possibilities for sustainable mobility and tomorrow’s energy industry," Reiner Mangold, Head of Sustainable Product Development at AUDI AG, told media. "The e-gas project marks a transition toward alternative forms of energy for automobiles.” For more information about the A3, or to take a look at any Audi vehicle, contact Barrier Motors, proudly serving the entire Eastside.
